Follow the wallet's native setup and locate its network selector.
Petra is an illustrative Aptos wallet. This lesson uses its documented software-wallet flow.
Use the official installation path
Install through Petra's publisher link and choose Create new wallet. Set and confirm a password, read the terms, then privately preserve the generated recovery phrase and complete the wallet's confirmation flow. Finish setup without a funded import. Other Petra products can use different recovery methods; this example follows its documented software-wallet flow.
Select the network deliberately
Choose the account, open Settings, then Network and select testnet for practice; check its selected indicator. Settings also offers View on explorer. Mainnet, testnet and devnet have separate state, so record the network beside each address or hash rather than assuming their balances are shared.
Find the controls before using them
Read the guide or optionally create a fresh, unfunded practice wallet.
- Locate Create new wallet and the network settings in the official guide.
- Find the account-address and View on explorer controls.
- If practicing in the app, choose testnet and stop before funding or signing.
A wallet's account and its selected network must be checked together.
Write the network beside every practice address and transaction.
