The fake can borrow a photograph, a logo and a helpful tone. It still has to get you to open something or reveal something.
Check through a second route
Phishing can arrive by email, text or social message. Open the organization's known app or independently located website to check the request. A link supplied by the suspicious message is not an independent confirmation. Avoid unexpected attachments and software installations; a request to log in again also deserves scrutiny.
The copied support desk
A spoofed support identity works by convincing you that the person speaking has authority. Compare the actual domain and account handle with the provider's published support channels. A matching avatar or copied conversation style is weak evidence. Do not let a supposed repair session become a request for recovery material.
Open the wallet yourself
A page can imitate a wallet window. Use the wallet installation you verified rather than an unexpected in-page prompt. For downloads and recovery instructions, begin from the developer's real website. A request that suddenly appears while browsing is different from a restoration you chose to perform in the genuine wallet.
Case file: the scholarship portal
A fictional Web3 scholarship email contains a QR code and says to install a 'required wallet repair tool'. Do not scan or install anything.
- List the actions being requested: visit a destination and install software.
- Write how you would find the real organizer without using the email's link or phone number.
- Decide what evidence would make you stop. A QR code is still a route to a destination, not proof of the sender.
Independent verification breaks the message's control over your next step.
Check the doorway before handing the visitor a key.
