Choose the account type deliberately
Install the official extension, set a local password and review its data-collection choice. Create a new Polkadot account, rather than following the guide's illustrated Ethereum example, and give it a name. Privately back up the recovery phrase before continuing. No funded import is needed; network-specific balance checks follow in the next lesson.
Keep recovery outside the browser lesson
Talisman's backup guide recommends a private offline recovery-phrase backup. A local password or exported JSON file is not a substitute for preserving the account's recovery material. Do not copy real recovery words into notes stored by the course, messages, screenshots or application forms.
Walk the account choices
Read the official guide or optionally create a fresh unfunded Polkadot account.
- Find the official extension and the Polkadot account option.
- Write an offline backup plan without including an actual phrase.
- Find the account and network controls, then stop before funding, imports or application connections.
The wallet can be learned without exposing an existing funded account.
Select the intended account type and privately back up recovery before onchain use.
