Recognize relationship-based investment fraud and demands for extra deposits to release withdrawals.
Some scams have excellent patience. The person may learn about your week before they ever mention a token.
The platform may be part of the story
Relationship-based investment schemes can move a conversation from an ordinary social setting to a trading platform chosen by the scammer. Apparent profits and early withdrawals can build confidence. Ask who independently verifies the business and controls the assets. The person introducing the platform is not an independent source about its legitimacy.
Do not pay to rescue a displayed profit
A fraudulent platform may claim that taxes or other extra payments are required before funds can be released. The FBI advises victims of suspected cryptocurrency investment fraud to stop sending money and report the incident. A larger number on a dashboard does not justify a new payment to the same suspected operator.
Move the decision outside the conversation
Promises of guaranteed returns and pressure to route money into someone else's investment system are reasons to stop. Use an independent channel to investigate the business, and talk to someone you trust outside the pitch. The decision does not have to be settled during the conversation that introduced the opportunity.
Case file: the impossible withdrawal
Fictional situation: a new online friend introduced a platform. It now shows 8,000 SAMPLE units, but demands another 500 to 'validate taxes' before withdrawal.
- Write down what you can actually verify separately from the displayed balance.
- Mark the new payment as another transfer at risk, not as proof that the old balance exists.
- Prepare a pause message for yourself and identify an independent person you can talk to.
- Save the fictional timeline for the evidence exercise in the final lesson.
A sunk deposit does not make the next deposit safer.
Trust in a conversation and evidence about a financial platform are different things.
