A wallet can exist before its ledger account
Distinguish key creation, account activation and reserve.
Generating keys is not the same event as creating a funded account on the ledger.
- Wallet generates keys
- Account is activated on ledger
- Balance includes reserve obligations
Keys and ledger state
An XRPL account has an address, XRP balance and transaction sequence. A wallet can generate keys before the corresponding account exists on the ledger. Activation and ownership of ledger objects have separate requirements.
Reserve is not a fee
XRPL reserves constrain how much XRP remains available to spend. Account and object requirements can change. Read the current reserve documentation; do not treat the displayed balance as entirely spendable.
Draw an unfunded wallet
Use a fictional address and no deposit.
- Draw keys outside a ledger box.
- Leave the matching ledger account absent.
- Explain why the two states are compatible.
An unfunded setup need not have an on-ledger account yet.
Check reserve and spendable balance separately.
