One ecosystem, several ledgers
Identify the chain and account before interpreting a DOT or asset balance.
A wallet can make several networks look like one place. Their onchain balances still need separate checks.
- Wallet key and displayed account
- Selected chain: its balance state
- Another chain: separate balance state
A key is not a shared balance
Each chain maintains its balance state. Different address displays do not move funds. Check the selected chain's explorer and balance fields rather than assuming the wallet's overall total is spendable there.
Locate the asset on Polkadot Hub
The relay chain supplies security; Polkadot Hub handles asset logic. Hub asset IDs and foreign-asset locations identify holdings on that network. Record those identities before choosing an app or deposit route. Registration does not transfer funds between chains.
Make a balance-location card
Use a public account or documentation examples without connecting a wallet.
- Create fields for chain name, account address and asset ID or location.
- Add a second chain as a separate row rather than combining balances.
- Write why a changed address display would not itself transfer any asset.
An account's network belongs beside its address and balance.
Read the chain, account and asset identity as one complete description.
