The secret is not a support ticket
Recognize recovery-phrase theft and understand why changing an app password is insufficient after a leak.
Agent 589 can explain a recovery phrase. He should never receive yours. Neither should a form, moderator or helpful stranger.
Know what opens which door
In a conventional seed-based wallet, the recovery phrase restores control of its derived accounts. A private key controls its corresponding account. The app password protects a local installation; changing it does not replace leaked blockchain keys. Different recovery designs exist, so use the documentation for the exact wallet and account you own.
Restoring is a deliberate action
A legitimate wallet may need recovery material during a restoration you intentionally started in verified wallet software. That does not make an unexpected web page asking you to validate, synchronize or upgrade a wallet trustworthy. Verify the application itself and the reason for the request before proceeding with a real recovery.
A helper does not need ownership
Impersonators may pretend to be a support engineer and ask for secret material to diagnose an issue. Public transaction details can describe a problem; a recovery phrase grants control. Do not send phrases or private keys in chats, screenshots, forms or screen-sharing sessions, even to someone who already knows your public address.
Sort the imaginary support envelope
Use these labels only: public address, transaction ID, recovery phrase, private key, app version. Do not write real secrets.
- Make two columns: information for describing a problem, and information that controls an account.
- Place each label, keeping the recovery phrase and private key out of the support column.
- Add a privacy note: even public transaction details may connect your identity to your activity, so share only what support needs.
You can ask for help without handing over the ability to spend.
Protect the authority to recover, not just the screen that asks you to log in.
