Check execution and data costs
Recognize the components of a Base fee.
A layer-two transaction still pays for work and for its connection to the parent chain.
- L2 execution cost
- L1 data cost
- Total ETH fee estimate
Two costs to account for
Base fees include L2 execution and an L1 data or security component. Both are paid in ETH. A token balance alone does not provide that fee balance.
Use today's estimate
Read the wallet's current total rather than copying an old gas example. Before a transfer, check Base, recipient, amount and available ETH. Use the official connection guide's explorer to inspect status and recorded fee afterwards.
Two-column fee note
Use fictional amounts only.
- Draw execution and data columns.
- Add the made-up values together.
- Label the result as an estimate, not a fixed price.
An estimate accounts for more than L2 execution.
Keep the current fee estimate separate from the transfer amount.
