영어 원문 읽기 →Those middle characters matter
Avoid lookalike token identities and poisoned transfer history when checking a recipient.
An abbreviated address is useful for a tidy page. It is not enough to approve a transfer.
History can contain an impostor
Address poisoning places a lookalike address in activity a person may later copy. The beginning and ending characters can resemble a familiar recipient while the middle is different. Do not treat a recent transfer row, including a tiny or zero-value entry, as a verified address book.
Reveal, compare, then confirm
Use a destination obtained through a trusted route, reveal the full address and compare it with the final wallet prompt. Checking only the first and last characters leaves the lookalike problem unsolved. Keep verified contacts where your wallet supports them, and recheck the actual recipient whenever sending.
A ticker is a label
Different tokens can imitate a project's name and artwork. The selected network and exact token identifier matter. Uniswap's impersonator warnings direct users to compare contract addresses; its warnings are additional information, not investment recommendations. Apply the same habit when exploring a token page: expand its identity before comparing sources.
Spot the changed middle
These deliberately invalid teaching labels are not payment addresses: CLASS-589-ALPHA-002 and CLASS-589-OMEGA-002.
- Cover the middle words. Notice how the visible beginning and ending match.
- Reveal the whole label and mark the difference.
- Write a transfer rule: use the verified destination, not a convenient history entry; compare the full final address.
A compact display should be expanded for a decision that depends on exact identity.
Shorten an address for reading. Expand it for verification.
