Читати англійський оригінал →A wallet mnemonic maps structured binary information to words selected from a defined list. BIP-39 uses a list of 2,048 words, so each word index represents eleven bits. The words are generated from entropy and checksum information; they are not intended to be a phrase invented by a person. Human-chosen wording can be predictable, even if it sounds unusual. The value of the format is accurate transcription of machine-generated randomness, not the literary complexity of a sentence.
A mnemonic's order is part of its meaning. Rearranging the same words changes the encoded information and may fail the checksum. For a twelve-word BIP-39 mnemonic, 128 entropy bits and four checksum bits fill 132 bits, exactly twelve groups of eleven. The arithmetic helps explain why a checksum is a modest error detector rather than a strong authentication system. Passing the check says nothing about whether an attacker already knows the words or whether the phrase came from a trustworthy generator.
The displayed words are only one layer of wallet recovery. A compatible application must implement the relevant encoding, normalization, seed derivation, and account discovery rules. Different formats can use words while being mutually incompatible. A wallet may also require an additional passphrase, and a wrong passphrase can derive a different valid wallet instead of producing an obvious error. Before relying on a backup, understand which format the wallet generated and which recovery procedure supports that format; word count alone is not sufficient identification.
