Its focus is institutional money and infrastructure, not the launch of a publicly traded cryptocurrency. The BIS project material describes the participating initiative and its evolving work. A research project, prototype, and live production service should be identified separately rather than treated as interchangeable stages.
A cross-border payment can require checks and updates across several institutions and legal systems. A shared programmable environment might coordinate parts of that process, including conditional transfers and compliance steps. For example, linked instructions could be designed so that one leg does not complete unless the other can also complete. The technology still needs decisions about access, settlement assets, legal finality, data visibility, and responsibility when an institution or technical component fails.
The existence of a tokenization experiment does not prove that all participating jurisdictions will issue a retail CBDC or abandon correspondent banking. Nor does it imply demand for a particular public token. Compare the scope of Agora with other BIS projects by looking at the type of money, intended users, and settlement model. Use dated project reports for milestones and distinguish a demonstrated technical capability from a completed legal framework or a commercially adopted service.
