Whether a token's descriptive fields or their update authority can change after creation.

Lire l’original anglais →A token's on-chain identifier is distinct from the name, ticker, image, and website shown by a wallet. Solana's token documentation describes mint accounts and metadata mechanisms, including fields and authorities that can be updated under particular rules. If descriptive information is mutable, the same token can later appear with different branding. Conversely, copying a well-known ticker does not give a newly created token the identity of the original asset.
Imagine a token initially displayed as SAMPLE with a generic logo. If an authorized party changes its metadata to resemble a popular project, existing balances remain associated with the same mint even though the interface now looks different. An indexer may cache earlier fields while another interface displays the update, producing inconsistent search results. Comparing the mint address and transaction history helps separate a cosmetic change from an actual migration to another token.
Inspect the metadata standard, current update authority, and whether relevant authority can be transferred or revoked. An immutable display name does not establish safe minting, transferable liquidity, or honest project management. Off-chain content referenced by a URI may also change independently of some on-chain fields. Treat metadata as descriptive information with a provenance trail, and record both the canonical identifier and the retrieval time when saving a token profile or evaluating claims about its history.
