How the claim is structured

Tether Gold is separate from the dollar-linked USDT product. Its legal terms describe fractional interests in gold reserves and the allocation of those interests to specific bars. Blockchain transfers move the token, while storage, allocation, insurance arrangements, and legal enforcement involve organizations and records outside the chain. The whitepaper explains the proposed product mechanics; governing terms are particularly important for understanding what a holder can actually request from the issuer.

Acquiring and redeeming

A person can acquire tokens through a supported intermediary without necessarily meeting the issuer's conditions for direct redemption. Direct transactions with the issuer can require identification, jurisdictional eligibility, fees, and minimum quantities. Physical redemption may depend on the weight of available bars rather than on a buyer's preferred small amount. Therefore, the ability to trade a fractional token on a market should not be confused with unconditional access to a corresponding fractional shipment of gold.

Evaluating the exposure

The token's reference asset is gold, so it is not designed to maintain a fixed dollar price. A useful review compares the token's market price with gold, examines the precise contract and network, and reads reserve and allocation information alongside the redemption rules. As an illustrative risk, a token might remain transferable while an intermediary temporarily suspends withdrawals. Distinguish the issuer's statements about reserves from independently verified observations and from the additional counterparty exposure created by a custodial trading platform.
